The program of “Provision of temporary accommodation to refugees” in the frame of the “Relocation Scheme” program of the Municipality of Athens and the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees is also taking care for the teaching of Greek to refugees. In this respect, they cooperate with the School of Greek Language & Culture “Alexander the Great”
The School, which since 1972 offers Modern Greek lessons to foreigners, will provide for free its classrooms, educational material and human resources. During this program, tutors of the school as well as volunteers will offer the lectures, after being properly prepared.
The school’s program is based on the communicative approach for the teaching of Greek, while its lecturers have great experience in teaching Greek to foreigners. Our aim is to help our students to live as Greeks.
At the beginning, a 40-hour program will be offered to a small number of refugees, who will be selected among those who will express interest and then the program will be moderated according to the results. We hope that after this phase we will continue teaching Greek to as many refugees as possible.
The first phase of the program will start on 12 December and will finish at the end of February.
