As we welcome October, we look back at a truly memorable September here at our school. Though autumn has begun in many places, in Greece, summer lingered with warm days and plenty of sunshine. It was the perfect backdrop for both our lessons and the amazing cultural experiences we shared with our students!
We kicked off the month with a visit to Pedion tou Areos park, where we explored the Avenue of Heroes and discussed Greece’s fight for independence. The park’s rich history, combined with its natural beauty, made for an inspiring outdoor classroom.
Next, we immersed ourselves in Greek cinema with a screening of Magiki Poli (1954) at the open-air Riviera cinema, followed by a thought-provoking trip to the Plato’s Academy digital museum. Our students enjoyed discussing philosophy, led by one of our very own—a philosophy professor from Canada.
One of the month’s highlights was attending a spectacular music concert at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), honoring legendary Greek composer Lefteris Papadopoulos. The concert featured some of Greece’s most renowned artists, celebrating Papadopoulos’ timeless lyrics, which have captured the essence of Greek life through the decades. It was a night of music, emotion, and unity that we’ll never forget!
We also had the chance to see Iphigenia in Aulis at the magnificent Herodion Theatre, with English surtitles, and ended the month with a visit to the Athens Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos, where literature lovers gathered to celebrate the written word.
September was a month full of learning, art, and cultural enrichment. We look forward to sharing many more experiences with our students as we move into October!
