Life at School: Vasilopita Party at Alexander School – Tradition, Smiles & a Lucky Winner

Secret Santa gifts during Vasilopita party at Alexander School

Today was a very special day at Alexander Greek School as we celebrated one of the most beloved Greek traditions of the New Year: the Vasilopita party at Alexander Greek School, centered around the traditional Vasilopita cutting. Students and staff gathered together to share this symbolic moment, full of wishes, laughter, and—of course—anticipation for the lucky φλουρί.

This year, luck smiled on Aner, our student visiting us from Vienna, who found the hidden φλουρί inside his slice of Vasilopita. According to Greek tradition, the person who finds the coin is believed to enjoy good luck, health, and prosperity throughout the year. Congratulations, Aner—we hope this brings you a wonderful year in Greece and beyond!

🤶 Secret Santa at Alexander School – Animation Style!

Staff Secret Santa at Alexander Greek School inspired by animation

The celebrations didn’t stop there. Our team also enjoyed our annual Staff Secret Santa gift exchange, which this year had a creative twist: inspiration from the world of animation. From playful surprises to imaginative gifts, the exchange brought plenty of smiles and showcased the creativity and warm spirit of our teaching team. Even though Nikoleta and Rania were not with us in person that day, they were very much part of the Secret Santa exchange, adding to the joy and sense of togetherness. Our team—Nancy, Irini, Vasiliki, Maria, Artemis, along with the rest of our staff—embraced the spirit of the celebration with warmth, creativity, and a great sense of fun.

Moments like these reflect what we truly value at Alexander Greek School: a sense of community, cultural immersion, and shared experiences—both inside and outside the classroom.

Participating in traditions such as the Vasilopita cutting allows our students to experience Greek culture in a living, meaningful way. Language learning becomes richer when it is combined with customs, celebrations, and real-life interaction.

We look forward to many more cultural moments together throughout the year!
