The neighborhood

The School of Thessaloniki is very close to the heart of the City but at the same time it is in a quiet neighborhood of Ano Poli (Upper City), where history and modern life are combined in a wonderful way.

It is around 2 km walking distance from the coastal front, and 3 km from Aristotelous square and Tsimiski Avenue, where is the Centre of the city of Thessaloniki.  It is opposite of  a small traditional square of Ano Poli, Kallitheas square, with tall trees and picturesque benches, a small bakery with traditional products and delicious pies and a small café that also serves out tasty meze in tiny plates, beer, tsipouro or ouzo.

Every day we enjoy spending time there with our students during the breaks or we organize there some open air Greek dance lessons, we discuss about favorite topics or we listen to Greek music.

Around Kallithea square you can see the most typical streets of the area of Ano Poli, like Herodotou str., Andokidou str. And Gorgous str. In these streets there are also the typical and historical houses with the remarkable architecture of the old Thessaloniki. However, every day people live there: students, families, visitors but also artist, musicians, painters. Ano Poli and Kallithea square is an open minded and pet friendly neighborhood.

Generally, within a radius of 2 or 3 kilometers are the Center of Thessaloniki and all the important monuments, as Rotonda, the Byzantine church of Saint Nicolas of the Orphans (UNESCO Protected Monument), Eptapyrgio (the Castle) and Islahane, the historical first Technical University of Thessaloniki during the historical Ottoman period. At a very close distance are located all the Universities of the City, the Archaeological and the Byzantine Museum, the International Fair of Thessaloniki, where every year, very important Greek and international exhibitions are hosted, Book Fair, Greek small business, Greek or local products.

The “Fountain”, a stop of the New Metro of Thessaloniki is a 10-minute walk away, while Egnatia Avenue, where all buses in Thessaloniki pass, is an 8-minute walk away. Also, the White Tower is a 15-minute walk away, while Aristotelous Square, the central square of the city of Thessaloniki, is a ten-minute bus ride away.
