“A Life-Changing Learning Journey in Athens”
Kalimera Everyone,
I feel truly blessed to have found the Greek Language School “Alexander the Great” in Athens! The team designed lessons around my personal interests, turning them into exciting and enriching experiences that far exceeded my expectations.
First of all, my teacher Eleni taught me so much about Greek Art History that my visit to the National Archaeological Museum came alive with meaning—from pottery and statues to weapons and artifacts. Thank you, Eleni, for your inspiring lessons and for sparking my passion for Greek art.
Secondly, Nancy brought Greek Mythology and the great Philosophers—Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle—to life with such expertise that, while walking the streets of Athens, I could see their lasting legacy everywhere: in taverna names, temples, statues, and even the cave where Socrates was imprisoned. Thank you, Nancy, for the wonderful “World Poetry Day” you organized, which gave me the chance to share a poem from my own culture. Your lessons were unforgettable!
Then came Vasiliki, who made Greek History and traditional dancing vibrant and fun. Her lessons brought Alexander the Great’s conquests to life and even inspired my weekend trip to Nafplio. Our dance classes, with her cheerful “1…2…3” in a circle, were joyful and full of connection. Thank you, Vasiliki, for always teaching with a smile and so much energy!
I also had the pleasure of learning from Mr. Costas, as I respectfully call him, who introduced me to the essence of the Greek Diet—so much more than the Mediterranean Diet. He taught us the value of eating slowly, in good company, and respecting traditions like fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays. His teaching of Homer’s Odyssey was filled with such passion that I immediately wanted to buy the book. Mr. Costas, I will always carry Ithaca in my heart!
A heartfelt thanks also to Irini, who was always there to help—responding warmly to every email, phone call, and request, and greeting me daily with a kind smile and a cup of coffee. You made my experience feel like home.
To the entire team: thank you for bringing so much joy, knowledge, and inspiration into my life. I even wrote a poem about my travel adventures in Greece thanks to all of you. I loved the extra activities that helped us connect with Athens and with each other in meaningful ways.
And, according to my Greek coffee grounds… I’ll be back in Athens soon!
Keep making the world a better place by changing students’ lives through education.
With love and admiration,
Marina A.
