Proud of Our Students: Marina’s Greek Odyssey

In March 2025, our school had the joy of welcoming Marina, a vibrant and passionate student from Texas, to Athens. A retired educator, writer, and lifelong learner, Marina joined us with an insatiable curiosity and deep love for Greek culture. To honor her unique interests and inspiring energy, we created a tailor-made program designed to immerse her in every layer of Greek civilization—both ancient and modern.

Her personalized curriculum included:

  • Greek Mythology and the tales of the Olympian gods
  • Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, explored through literary insights
  • Ancient Greek Philosophy, from Socrates to Aristotle
  • Greek Art and History, studied with our PhD specialist
  • A tribute to Alexander the Great and other legendary figures
  • Traditional Greek Dance and Rhythms
  • Hands-on experience of the Greek Mediterranean Diet

Marina embraced every seminar and excursion with genuine enthusiasm. From the heights of Meteora to the ruins of Delphi, from the dance floor to the warmth of taverna tables, she lived each moment with joy, reflection, and a thirst for learning.

Deeply moved by her experience, she gifted us a heartfelt poem titled “My Greek Odyssey”, capturing the essence of her time in Greece with vivid imagery and sincere emotion. Her words touched every member of our team, and we are honored to share her work below.

In addition to her poem, Marina also left us a thoughtful review, expressing her gratitude for what she described as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Her words and her presence have left a lasting impression, and we are certain that her story will inspire others to embark on their own journey of learning, discovery, and cultural connection.

Thank you, Marina, for reminding us that the spirit of learning has no age limit, and that Greece—its history, its people, and its language—welcomes all who arrive with an open heart.

With appreciation,
The Alexander Greek School Team
