Proud of Our Staff: Panagiotis Dendramis and His Contribution to Greek Cinema Education

We are proud to work with Panagiotis Dendrámis, the person responsible for the presentations and screenings of Greek films during one of our regular weekly activities—usually every second Tuesday. Through his insightful commentary and deep cinematic knowledge, Panagiotis creates enriching experiences that connect our students to Greek culture through film.

Born in Athens in 1979, Panagiotis first studied Psychology at the University of Athens, before following his passion for cinema. He studied at the Stavrakos Film School and earned a postgraduate degree in History and Theory of Cinema from the University of Crete. He has worked in the film and television industry as an assistant director, cameraman, editor, and production assistant. His short film The Room was selected for the Drama Short Film Festival in 2009.

He teaches and conducts research on the history of cinema, and has also led educational programs in Attica’s schools, introducing younger generations to audiovisual culture. He has completed his PhD on the history of film education in Greece, focusing on the unique role private initiatives played in training professionals from the late 19th century to the early 1990s, in contrast to the state-supported film schools found across most of Europe.

We are excited to share that his doctoral research has now been published as a book by ΑΙΓΟΚΕΡΩΣ Publishers. The book offers a detailed account of the private film schools in Greece, their structures, founders, faculty, legal framework, and the conditions under which they operated. It’s a valuable contribution to the understanding of Greek film history and the development of audiovisual education in the country.

The book is now available for purchase.
Congratulations, Panagiotis—we are proud to have you as part of our cultural team!
