With boundless joy and pride, we announce the publication of the third book by the Director of the School of Thessaloniki, Christos Antoniadis, entitled “Small Seas” – “Μικρές θάλασσες”, published by Pigi.
“It was as if Leros resembled a huge chest, the contents of which proved the unity of space and time, the historical and musical continuity of modern Greek civilization.”
The author is our beloved teacher from our school in Thessaloniki, Χρήστος Αντωνιάδης.
In this evocative novel, we follow the journey of Myrsini, who spends her summer vacation on the island of Leros. There she discovers an old chest filled with sea-worn pebbles, which she keeps as a souvenir — an innocent keepsake that slowly becomes the key to a much harsher reality.
Little by little, Myrsini begins to experience strange visions: memories — or ghosts — of other times; faces she doesn’t know, landscapes strangely familiar yet distant, belonging to a different era. As those visions grow stronger, she finds herself drawn into the dark history of Greece under dictatorship.
The novel weaves together memory, time and history in a haunting and atmospheric narrative: blending the personal and the collective, the island’s sea-scented memories and the painful shadows of exile and resistance.
Through lyrical prose and a moving storyline, “Mikres Thalasses” invites us to reflect on identity, memory and the ties that bind us to places, times and people — reminding us that the past is never truly gone.
We believe this is a deeply meaningful work — and we are honored that its author is a familiar face from our own school community. We hope you will enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed studying with him.
It will be available in all bookstores from January 20. For more details and pre-orders:
