Out of class activities: Dancing to Mikis Theodorakis

Mikis Theodorakis is probably the most important modern Greek composer. Throughout his long and successful career, he has written more than 1000 songs, such as music for plays, film scores, hymns, cantatas and operas. One of his most popular works, however, is his composition for the movie Zorba the Greek, which he wrote in 1964.
This week, our students in Athens took part in a dancing lesson, where they were taught the basic steps of dances like syrtaki, kalamatiano and syrtos. Among the dances they learned how to dance, was the famous syrtaki from the Zorba movie. After the lesson, the students talked with their teacher about the life and work of Theodorakis and were very enthusiastic with their overall experience!
