Our out-of-class activities in Chania give students the chance to experience Greek culture, taste local food and practice Greek in real-life situations. 🇬🇷 This Thursday, we enjoyed a wonderful traditional dinner with our students Paola from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Elvira from Romania 🇷🇴 in the heart of Chania’s Old Town.
A Greek Dinner Full of Flavors
Our evening started with a delicious selection of traditional Greek and Cretan dishes. We shared fava, saganaki and Greek salad with myzithra cheese and barley rusk. We also tried skoufikhta, a traditional handmade pasta from Crete. 🍽️
Each dish offered a different taste of Greek cuisine. The fresh local ingredients and traditional recipes made the dinner a wonderful way to discover the flavors of Crete.
The skoufikhta were particularly interesting. This traditional Cretan pasta is handmade and forms part of the island’s rich culinary tradition.
For our students, trying local food is an important part of discovering Greece. Food tells stories about a place, its history and its people.
Out-of-Class Activities in Chania and Greek Culture
Our out-of-class activities in Chania are not only about having fun. They also help students experience Greek culture outside the classroom.
A traditional dinner gives students the opportunity to hear Greek in a relaxed, everyday environment. They can listen to conversations, learn useful expressions and practice their Greek naturally.
Of course, there was plenty of conversation, laughter and sharing of experiences. Over glasses of white wine, we enjoyed a relaxed evening and discovered how easily people from different countries can connect around a Greek table. 🥂😊
This is one of the things we love most about our out-of-class activities. Language learning continues beyond the classroom when students use Greek in authentic situations.
Dinner in Chania’s Historic Old Town
We enjoyed our dinner at Mezedopoleio tis Annas, on the lively Daliani pedestrian street in the heart of Chania’s Old Town.
In the background, the impressive minaret added a unique historical atmosphere to our dinner.
It was a beautiful setting for an evening dedicated to Greek food, conversation and culture.
Learning Greek Beyond the Classroom
At Alexander Greek School, we believe that learning a language means much more than studying grammar and vocabulary.
Our out-of-class activities in Chania allow students to discover Greece while using the language they learn during their lessons.
Through dinners, cultural presentations, walks and other experiences, students can connect their Greek lessons with everyday life.
These experiences are also a wonderful way for students from different countries to meet and spend time together. 🌍

Discovering Crete Through Food
Food is an important part of Greek culture, and Cretan cuisine has a particularly strong connection with local traditions and ingredients.

For us, these experiences are an essential part of learning about Greece. They allow students to see, taste and experience the culture they are learning about in class.
A Memorable Greek Evening in Chania

Good food, traditional Cretan dishes, Greek conversation and great company created a warm and memorable evening in the heart of Chania. ❤️
