A Holiday Wonderland in the Heart of Athens: Christmas Village at Pedion tou Areos

As the festive season begins, one of Athens’ most beloved green spaces — Pedion tou Areos — has once again transformed into a vibrant holiday destination: the Christmas Village at Pedion tou Areos. Organized by the Region of Attica, this year’s edition runs from 28 November 2025 through 7 January 2026, offering free admission to all.

🎄 What to Expect: Festive Magic for All Ages

Families, friends, couples — everyone’s welcome. The Christmas Village brings together music, entertainment, fun and charm in a splendidly decorated, welcoming park. Highlights include:

  • Ice rink & grand carousel — glide across ice or spin around with joy 🎠.
  • Wooden chalets & Christmas market — about 40 festively lit wooden stalls selling handmade crafts, holiday gifts, decorations, and unique souvenirs.
  • Gastronomy corner & seasonal treats — warm drinks, sweets, snacks and festive foods to enjoy while strolling through the park.
  • Interactive games, educational activities & eco-awareness paths — engaging activities for children (and adults), creative workshops, and family-friendly entertainment.
  • Music & concerts on multiple stages — three stages (a main stage + two smaller ones) ensure a rich program: concerts by well-known Greek artists, bands, dance groups, street artists, youth ensembles — plus special shows for kids.

The Village is fully accessible to people with disabilities, reflecting an inclusive approach to public celebrations.

🎶 Opening & Program Highlights

The Christmas Village officially opened on Friday, 28 November 2025, with the lighting of the Christmas tree and a festive evening show. On the first night, artist Thodoris Ferris and the ensemble Onemanshow kicked off celebrations with live music.

The program for the season includes a wide array of concerts, holiday-themed tributes, children’s theatre and opera, DJ parties, and more. Among the scheduled acts:

  • Locomondo (29 Nov) — a vibrant mix of reggae, ska and Balkan sounds to get festive spirits going.
  • Special tributes to legendary Greek musicians and composers — bringing nostalgia and holiday magic together.
  • Family-friendly performances: from children’s opera to puppet-theatre-style shows, perfect for young visitors.
  • New Year’s Eve 2025 → 2026: A major outdoor celebration with Eleni Foureira, ZAF and DJ Bobito — fireworks, lights and a countdown under the stars.

🌟 Why It Matters: Reviving Public Spaces & Holiday Spirit

The Christmas Village at Pedion tou Areos isn’t just a seasonal amusement. According to local officials, it’s part of a broader effort by the Region of Attica to revitalise urban green spaces — making them safer, more beautiful, accessible, and meaningful for citizens all year round.

After years of under-use, Pedion tou Areos now becomes a vibrant social hub: families gather, children laugh, and the city reclaims a public space for joy, connection and community memory.

Moreover, by offering free entrance, the Village makes holiday magic accessible to people of all backgrounds — a welcome gesture in a time when festive celebrations can sometimes feel expensive or exclusive.
