Life at School: Our New Greek School Building in Chania
We are proud and excited to introduce our new Greek school building in Chania, Crete. This beautiful new space will welcome students from all over the world who come to study Greek in Greece and experience authentic Cretan life.
Our students have already started enjoying the building. They meet outside before lessons, relax on the front steps, and spend time together speaking Greek and sharing experiences. These first moments in the new school have made us very happy.
A Central Location in Chania
Our new Greek school building in Chania is located on Iroon Polytechneiou Street, one of the city’s most important and lively avenues. The street connects the famous Court House Square (Dikastiria) with the waterfront. At the same time, it offers easy access to shops, cafés, bakeries, and local services.
Unlike the narrow streets of the Old Town, this area feels open, modern, and full of everyday local life. Therefore, students can enjoy both comfort and authentic contact with the city.
Close to Chania Old Town
Another great advantage is the location near Chania Old Town and the Venetian Harbor. Students can reach the historic center with a short walk. There, they can discover:
traditional tavernas
Venetian architecture
museums and monuments
local markets
small picturesque streets
As a result, students combine Greek lessons with daily cultural experiences.
Near the Sea and Beaches
The waterfront is only a few minutes away from the school. In addition, the popular beach of Nea Chora is easily reachable on foot. Many students enjoy swimming, walking by the sea, or having coffee after class.
Thanks to the mild climate of Crete, outdoor life is possible during most of the year.
A Building with Character
The building itself reflects the spirit of our school. It is elegant, welcoming, and full of character. Its neoclassical style creates a warm and inspiring environment for learning Greek.
Most importantly, the building already feels alive with international students, conversations, and new friendships.
More Than Greek Lessons
At the School of Greek Language & Culture “Alexander the Great,” life at school is about much more than studying grammar. Students become part of an international community. They learn Greek while discovering Greek culture, local traditions, and everyday life in Crete.
This new Greek school building in Chania marks an exciting new chapter for our school, our teachers, and our students. We look forward to welcoming many more students in the future.
I attended Greek classes at this school during the summer of 2023 and 2024. I ve enjoyed the learning process with my wonderful… More teacher Vasiliki. She had the patience to listen to me even when I made mistakes in my speech and to correct me, to guide me during my studies in a way that would make my learning easier. During my stay at the school, I also met other teachers who were involved in extracurricular activities such as joint trips to museums, dinners, Greek dance lessons, classes on Greek culture and visits to supermarkets where we learned new words.... This school is my recommendation for anyone who wants to get to know the language and Greek culture and spend a pleasant time with wonderful people.
This is not only a wonderful place to learn Greek, with fantastic and caring teachers, but also a place to feel connected… More to a community, the Greek culture, while being inspired to keep learning. I was an absolute beginner student when I showed up to the School of Greek Language & Culture in Thessaloniki (itself an amazing, hidden jewel of a city). I didn’t know what to expect. What I found was a great, comfortable learning environment, with two talented, professional, inspiring teachers, in Christos and Maria, with a profound knowledge of the Greek language and culture. They also had a great passion for teaching and bringing students together, so this was much more than language learning, We were placed in flexible groups of students of comparable understanding, then taught in a way that was fun, engaging as well as effective. Through the teaching process itself we experienced contemporary Greek culture and it was uplifting. All the students I met were happy to be there and they came from many countries, including Germany, the United States (I am from California), Spain, Austria, etc., and all were friendly and happy to be there. Several had been coming back for many years, and some had achieved a great mastery of the Greek language. As you notice I loved my experience here, and I am sure you will love it too. In addition, the neighborhood is super safe with a great, friendly coffee shop across the square, and a couple of great Greek restaurants a couple of minutes away. Awesome all around. I’m continuing my Greek learning online and will be coming back next year.
I have been a student at this wonderful school for five years having started in the group classes for beginners and extending… More my learning with massively beneficial one to one lessons. Not only are all the teachers invested in the quality of the learning experience, this school gives you the opportunity to learn Greek in the context of Greek culture. Being able to be a part of this has enabled me to grow in my language skills and gain valuable understanding of Greek culture and make the leap from text book Greek to the language that is spoken every day - and for this i am truly grateful
Wonderful experience with this school in Thessaloniki - the right mixture of the grammer, texts and above all the discussions… More which motivate to speak Greek. And all of that in a relaxed, even funny setting. What can be better?
100% satisfaction.I took one week ,B2 level, at the school and was impressed with the staff and the program. Starting from… More the receptionist to the president of the school, they were extremely friendly, helpful, informative, and the didactic approach to teaching extremely effective. I am planning to come back. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience!
