Life at school : A visit to Epidaurus Festival 2024

Epidaurus is the most important ancient place of worship of the god Asclepius and is located in the Peloponnese. Since 1988 it belongs to the world cultural heritage of UNESCO.

In 340 BC, the ancient architect Polykleitos the Younger, built the theater of Epidaurus and it has a capacity of 13,000 spectators. Its wonderful acoustics, as well as the very good condition in which it is preserved, contributed to the creation of the Epidaurus festival that takes place every year in the summer months. You can enjoy ancient drama performances with Greek and English supertitles.

Epidaurus is less than two hours away from Athens and you can get there by car, bus or special theater buses, which will return you to Athens after the performance.

We went on Saturday to enjoy Euripides’ Bacchus in a wonderful direction. I personally think that seeing a show in Epidaurus is an experience of a lifetime! It is a unique feeling to be in the middle of nature under a clear sky full of stars and to watch a classic work of an ancient civilization!! Try it!
