Life at School: A Special Visit from Jukka, Language Advocate and Friend

Welcoming Back an Inspiring Former Student

Yesterday, we had the joy of welcoming Jukka back to Alexander Greek School. As a former student and long-time friend, Jukka holds a special place in our community. Over the years, he has remained deeply engaged with the Greek language, not only as a learner but also as a passionate promoter of linguistic exchange between Greece and Finland.

Introducing the Finnish-Greek Phrasebook: A Cross-Cultural Effort
Jukka returned to Athens not only to visit but also to celebrate a significant achievement: the launch of the new Finnish-Greek Phrasebook, recently released by our affiliate Alpha Publishers in Turku, Finland. As the lead coordinator of the project, Jukka has worked tirelessly with his team to create a high-quality resource for Finnish speakers eager to explore modern Greek.

This phrasebook doesn’t just translate words; it opens a door to cultural understanding. Filled with practical phrases, everyday vocabulary, and insightful commentary, it supports learners who want to engage with Greek language and culture on a meaningful level. Thanks to Jukka’s dedication and the collaborative spirit of everyone involved, the book has already found a warm welcome among language learners in Finland.

A Gift That Speaks Volumes

During his visit, Jukka brought us a thoughtful gift: a Laceleaf plant (Ανθούριο)—a beautiful symbol of appreciation and connection. Rather than simply expressing thanks in words, he chose something lasting and symbolic. The plant now sits in our school, reminding us daily of the deep and lasting bonds that language can build.

Celebrating Lifelong Learning and Lasting Ties
Jukka’s journey from language student to cultural ambassador highlights exactly what we strive to cultivate at Alexander: a love for Greek that goes beyond the classroom. His efforts remind us that learning a language is never just about grammar—it’s about forming connections, sharing experiences, and building bridges between people.

We thank Jukka sincerely for his continued friendship and inspiring work. We look forward to our next encounter and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Ευχαριστούμε πολύ, Jukka!
