Life at School: From Student to Friend – Kostas’ Ongoing Journey with Us

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is watching students fall in love with both the Greek language and Athens itself. A perfect example is Kostas, a Greek language student in Athens who first joined our school in August 2022. Back then, he was a complete beginner. Today, he speaks with confidence and fluency—and has become a beloved member of our school community.

Originally from Germany, Kostas visited our school for the first time during the summer of 2022. Since then, he has returned again and again—whenever his schedule allows—always with a warm smile and, quite often, with sweet or savory treats to share with classmates and teachers. From ταρτάκια to σπανακοπιτάκια, his thoughtful gestures have become a part of our school rhythm.

But it’s not just about food. Kostas now feels like a local. His love for the Greek language and culture is genuine. His connection to Athens has grown so strong that he’s now what we call an Athens classic—a regular presence who brings joy, energy, and friendship to every visit.

Even outside the classroom, our bond has deepened. We don’t just meet during lessons—we also arrange dinners, exchange messages, and enjoy time together as friends. Just yesterday, Nancy & Vasiliki, our beloved teachers, they had a joyful dinner with Kostas.  You can see the photos below—it was a beautiful evening full of laughter, conversation, and Greek hospitality.

We’re incredibly proud of how far he’s come. Kostas began as a total beginner, but with consistent effort, he now speaks fluent Greek. His story is a reminder of how language learning can change your connection to a place—and how a school can become a second home.
