A Student with a Passion for Greece

Our Greek language student from Mexico spent three unforgettable months in Athens, combining intensive Greek lessons with cultural experiences and travel across Greece. Her inspiring journey shows how language learning can become a lifelong passion.

Her love for Greece began long before she arrived. Fascinated by ancient Greek pottery, she developed a deep appreciation for Greek history and art. That curiosity inspired her to travel across the country, visit museums, archaeological sites, and historic monuments, and learn the language that had captured her imagination.

Three Months of Progress

When she first started learning Greek, she knew only a handful of words. Through determination, daily practice, and genuine enthusiasm, her vocabulary grew rapidly. By the end of her stay, she was confidently communicating in Greek and sharing her experiences with warmth and pride.

During her three months in Athens, she embraced every opportunity to discover Greece. She explored the city’s rich cultural heritage, travelled to breathtaking destinations such as Meteora, and experienced everyday life like a local. Every journey strengthened her connection with the country and its people.

What impressed us most was not only her dedication to learning Greek but also her sincere appreciation for Greek culture. She often said that the greatest treasure of Greece is its people—the kindness, hospitality, and generosity she encountered wherever she travelled.

Her Own Words

One of the proudest moments for our teachers was reading the following text, written by her in Greek after only three months of study:

*”Η αγάπη μου για την Ελλάδα ξεκίνησε μέσα από την κεραμική.

Πριν από πολλά χρόνια, σε ένα ταξίδι μου στην Αθήνα, αγόρασα δύο κεραμικά: το ένα γεωμετρικού ρυθμού και το άλλο κορινθιακού ρυθμού.

Το ελληνικό αλφάβητο δεν ήταν πρόβλημα για μένα σε ένα άλλο ταξίδι. Τότε οι πινακίδες κυκλοφορίας δεν ήταν γραμμένες και στα δύο αλφάβητα. Ταξίδευα με μια φίλη μου και διάβαζα τις πινακίδες, για να φτάσουμε στα Μετέωρα.

Εκείνη την εποχή το ελληνικό μου λεξιλόγιο ήταν μόνο είκοσι ή είκοσι πέντε λέξεις.

Σήμερα βρίσκομαι στην Αθήνα, κοντά σε ένα εξαιρετικό πάρκο, και μαθαίνω ελληνικά σε ένα σχολείο που ονομάζεται «Μέγας Αλέξανδρος».

Μετά από σχεδόν τρεις μήνες, πήγα σε μουσεία και μνημεία, έκανα πολλές βόλτες το λεξιλόγιό μου είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερο και μπορώ να πω ότι το καλύτερο πράγμα στην Ελλάδα είναι οι άνθρωποί της.”*

We are incredibly proud of her achievements, her perseverance, and her passion for learning. Students like her remind us that language is much more than grammar and vocabulary. It is a bridge between cultures and people.
