We decided with the students to go on small excursions in nature, combining our lesson with the enchanting landscape of Greece. This time our destination was Sounio! Sounio is the name of the cape located at the southernmost end of the prefecture of Attica. Its coasts are rocky and steep. Sounio is known because of its important geographical position but also because of the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon found there.
So our B2 level students, Niovi and Kostas, together with their teacher Nancy, went to Sounio and visited the archaeological site with the wonderful temple of Poseidon. At the same time, they learned about the importance of Souniο from ancient times to the present day, as well as the myths associated with it – both about Poseidon and Aegeus. Then they went to the fantastic sea just below the temple and swam in the deep blue waters! Of course, the excursion ended with Greek food in a beautiful tavern right next to the sea!
Sounio is an amazing destination for a unique excursion from the city. It’s very close to Athens city and has an amazing beach to swim and relax. We highly recommend it!
