Brigitte’s journey is not only about language learning. It is about cultural immersion, friendships, and discovering the heart of Athens. Her story reflects the very spirit of our school: learning Greek deeply while embracing the culture around it.
Beginning the Journey: From A2/B1 to C2
In 2023, Brigitte decided to take a four-month study leave to come to Athens. She wanted to deepen her Greek skills and understand the culture more profoundly. She started at level A2/B1, attending lessons for four hours every day, often followed by three hours of homework.
“The intensity was real,” Brigitte recalls, “but it really pushed me to progress.” Her dedication paid off. Within months, she completed B1 and B2 levels and quickly advanced to C1 and C2—the highest level of Greek proficiency offered at our school.
Her motivation was personal. Part of her family lives in Greece, and she had been in touch with the Greek language and culture since childhood. But Brigitte’s curiosity went beyond family connections. She wanted to live the language fully—both in the classroom and in real-life situations.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Alexander School, learning Greek is never limited to textbooks. Brigitte joined cultural presentations, museum visits, film screenings, Greek dance lessons, and traditional school dinners.
She fondly recalls, “The school felt like a small family… Lessons in the supermarket or in the park with the school director always brought laughter.”
Every activity helped Brigitte improve her language skills while creating lasting memories. She learned to combine speaking, listening, reading, and writing in ways that textbooks alone could never provide.
Moreover, our extracurricular programs helped her understand Greek culture from multiple angles. From visiting the Acropolis to attending film screenings about Greek history, Brigitte immersed herself in the language and culture every single day.
Exploring Athens: Favorite Spots and Acropolis Adventures
On weekends, Brigitte explored Athens and its surroundings. She visited Delphi, Corinth, Epidaurus, and the nearby islands. But her favorite place in Athens was always the Acropolis.
On her last day at school, after taking official graduation photos with her C1 diploma, Brigitte, her sister, and her beloved teacher Nancy went to the Acropolis for a special visit. This was not only a celebration of her success but also a personal tribute to her love for Greek history.
Fun fact: we affectionately call Brigitte our official tour guide (η ξεναγός). She now gives this tour every two months, either as a guest at the school or guiding her relatives and friends around Athens. Her enthusiasm for showing the city’s beauty, history, and stories has become legendary among staff and students alike.
Greek Dance, Laughter, and Cultural Immersion
Every Friday, Brigitte participated in Greek dance lessons. These sessions were not just about learning steps; they were about laughter, fun, and connecting with classmates.
She recalls: “We often stumbled over our own feet, but that made it even more enjoyable. Dancing together built friendships and memories that last long after classes end.”
These moments, combined with excursions and cultural events, created a balanced and holistic learning experience. Brigitte was not just mastering grammar and vocabulary; she was living Greek culture.
Exam Success: C1 School Exams and Official Greek Exams
Last month, we proudly celebrated Brigitte’s success once again. She passed our C1 school exams with excellent results. Furthermore, she is now preparing for the official Greek C1 exams in May 2026.
Previously, Brigitte had achieved another major milestone: earning her B2 diploma alongside Tang from China after only four months of intensive study. You can read more about that success in “Brigitte Rupp – B2 Diploma Award”.
Her achievements reflect not only hard work and consistency but also a deep engagement with the language and culture. Brigitte has become a role model for students seeking to combine language learning with real-life experiences.
Continuing the Journey: Literature and High-Level Greek
Now that Brigitte has completed all our books and reached C2, her studies focus on literature, advanced vocabulary, and high-level Greek expression. She reads Greek novels, analyzes texts, and engages in conversations that challenge even native speakers.
She says: “Even after completing C2, I feel there is always more to learn. Greek is a living language, and Athens offers endless ways to experience it.”
Her story demonstrates that learning a language is not only about passing exams. It is about curiosity, exploration, and cultural engagement. Brigitte’s journey continues to inspire both current and prospective students.
