It’s happening in Athens: The 53rd Athens Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos 🌿📚

It’s happening in Athens: the Athens Book Festival 2025 is opening its gates from September 5 to 21 at Pedion tou Areos, the beautiful park located right in front of our school. This beloved event is the largest celebration of books in Greece, attracting publishers, authors, and readers from all over the country. Whether you are a passionate book lover or simply curious to explore, this two-week festival is the perfect opportunity to experience Athens through literature, culture, and creativity.

A Celebration of Books and Culture

The Athens Book Festival 2025 brings together over 210 publishing houses, 285 bookstands, and more than 200 cultural events. Visitors will enjoy not only books, but also concerts, theatrical performances, workshops, and interactive activities. It’s a cultural feast that connects people of all ages with the magic of storytelling.

Focus on Children and Reading

This year’s central theme is “Child and Reading: With a Book, I Discover the World.” The program highlights the importance of inspiring children to read from an early age, showing how books help shape imagination, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. Through reading, children discover not only themselves but also the wider world around them.

To bring this theme to life, the festival offers a rich variety of events in collaboration with cultural organizations, including:

  • Round-table discussions with the Network for Children’s Rights, IBBY Greece, and Library4all.

  • A three-day showcase for new writers.

  • A children’s workshop by the National Historical Museum.

  • Performances such as Peter and the Wolf, a Karagiozis shadow theater show, and even a magic performance.

  • Live music, including “The International Roads of Mikis” by Marios Strofalis and guest artists.
