  • Thessaloniki International Fair

The Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), held every September, is Greece’s leading exhibition and development institution for …a century. With its dynamic and multifaceted character, TIF serves as a key hub for political dialogue, business outreach, and innovation, bringing together governments, investors, enterprises, and citizens.

The institution has its origins in the tradition of exchanging inland products with seafood, during the Byzantine era, specifically from the 10th century AD. They were called “Dimitria” because they took place during the days of celebration of the memory of the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Saint Demetrius.

The institution that began in 1966 continues unabated to this day. It includes theatrical, musical, dance events, art exhibitions, as well as parallel activities of various types.

                Τhe events take place during the months of September and October. They are hosted in          various cultural venues, mainly those managed by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, such as the City  Hall, the Aneton Municipal Theater, the Labattoir Cultural Center, the Villa Petridis, as well as in many  museums, galleries and outdoor spaces in the city.

The Thessaloniki Film Festival is a Thessaloniki-based cultural institution focusing on cinema. It aims to promote film culture and education, to support the domestic and international film industry, to form partnerships with national and international cultural institutions and to promote the unique cultural identity of Thessaloniki. The Institution organizes the Thessaloniki International Film Festival every November and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival every March, while its year-long activity includes the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum and the Thessaloniki Cinemateque, as well as screenings and special tributes held throughout the year, and educational programs. The Thessaloniki Film Festival is the largest film institution in Greece, its activity attracting more than 300.000 visitors yearly.

               The Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon is a popular annual running event held in the city of Thessaloniki. Participants run a half marathon distance of 21.0975 kilometers through the streets of Thessaloniki at night, which creates a unique and exciting atmosphere. The event typically takes place in the fall, and attracts both local and international runners of all levels.

The Forest Festival is an annual cultural event in Thessaloniki, organized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG). It takes place from June to September and features theatre performances and concerts on various stages, including the Forest Theatre and the Earth Theatre. The festival is known for its large concerts, great theatre and open-air stages under the stars. 

  • Eptapyrgio Festival Every June and July, in the inner courtyard of Eptapyrgio (the Upper City and Castle of Thessaloniki), in collaboration with the Bureau of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki, there is a new institution since the summer of 2019, the “Eptapyrgio Festival”. This Festival aspires to become a key cultural institution in the wider region of northern Greece and an attraction, helping to transform Thessaloniki from a simple stopover into a cultural destination.
